The error message "There was a problem sending the command to the program" occurred on my friend's computer, when used to open a microsoft excel file. However, if the excel program is run first, then the file is opened using the open menu in microsoft excel, this message is not displayed. This message appears if the file is opened directly (double click) in windows explorer.
Here's how to solve the "There was a problem sending the command to the program" problem in Microsoft Excel:
Method 1:
- Open the Microsoft Excel program, click the windows logo in the top left corner, and select excel Option.
- Select menu advanced
- Uncheck the option "ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)" then click ok
- Please try opening the excel file from windows explorer again. If successful, the error message will no longer appear and the file can be opened normally.
