Kdenlive, The Best Free Video Editing Software on Linux

Linux is an alternative operating system to Windows that is quite powerful, stable and with a good level of security. There are various Linux distro options that can be used such as ubuntu, debian, elementaryOS, Zorin OS, linux Mint etc. Users can choose their own Linux distro according to their tastes and needs.
However, for users who can use certain software that is only supported on the Windows operating system, sometimes they are reluctant to switch to Linux. Especially in this case for free video editing software on linux, there is indeed nothing as powerful as video editing software on windows such as adobe premiere, sony vegas etc.
Not long ago, I was interested in experimenting with video editing software on Linux again. And this time my choice fell to Kdenlive, a free licensed video editing software created by the same community that developed KDE (one of the desktop environments on linux). There are many video editing software on linux itself, such as pitivi, openshot, Cinelerra, blender, avidemux etc. But I think Kdenlive is better than the alternative free video editing software that I mentioned earlier. There are also those who think Kdenlive is similar to sony vegas. Then what are the advantages of Kdnlive live?

Pros of Kdelive (best free Video editing software on linux)

  1. Has unlimited multitrack editing. With unlimited track facilities we can create more freely. because some free editing software has limited tracks. This track can be a concept similar to layers in Photoshop editing software.
  2. It has the facility to separate audio and video from a clip across multiple tracks. So we can separate 1 video file that has audio into separate tracks between audio and video.
  3. Non-blocking rendering, So with this software, during the rendering process we can still work on the editing process simultaneously.
  4. Ease of creating Effects and transitions, and we can even create some of our own transition wipes
  5. Simple user interface for easy creation of color clips, text clips, and image clips
  6. Has the facility to automatically create a slideshow from a directory of images, with crossfade transitions between images
  7. Keyboard Shortcuts to speed up editing performance and a configurable interface layout to your liking
  8. Supports multiple video formats
  9. No limit on the video resolution size when rendering. Some free video editing software such as Lightworks limits the render resolution size to 720p. In Kdenlive, there is no limit to the rendering resolution.
  10. In addition to the linux version, windows and mac OSX versions are also available.
  11. Automatic backup feature. Our project files are automatically backed up every few minutes, and older versions of the project files are also saved in case we need to revert to an earlier version. This is especially important when the computer suddenly shuts down or crashes.
  12. It has a proxy feature, with this feature Kdenlive automatically creates a new file with a lower resolution so that it is lighter when editing. This is especially useful for editing on computers with less than high specifications.
  13. Support gren screen/blue screen editing
  14. Last but not least, Kdenlive has a color correction feature that is very useful for color gradding and a LUTs feature for color gradding with existing luts files.
  15. The last and most special because this software is free and with a size of only about 100 MB it turns out to have very powerful features
Well there are also many advantages of Kdenlive that I wrote!!! In addition to the advantages of Kdenlive, it feels incomplete if we don't discuss the disadvantages of this software.

Disadvantages of Kdenlive

  1. There are still few tutorials in Indonesian, not as many as adobe premiere and sony vegas.
  2. In the windows version based on my experience for the current version is still unstable and often crashes.

That's all my discussion about Kdenlive as the best free video editing software on linux according to the author. There is nothing wrong with us getting used to using free and legal video editing software. Besides the ease of installation, it is certainly safer from viruses than paid software that is modified so that it can be used for free full version which we do not know whether a virus is infiltrated or not in it. That's all and thank you. If you have any questions, please submit them in the comments column.
