Lately, there have been a lot of pornographic pictures, videos or posts circulating on the Facebook homepage. Unbeknownst to the account owner, usually the pornographic image/video post automatically tags many accounts of the friends of the person posting the image/video. Actually, the account owner did not intentionally post the porn link. The account could have been hacked, or previously clicked on the link shared by someone else.

In the past, it was usually the Facebook app that was attacked, but now it's more common to attack browsers by adding certain plugins to them. So, anyone who uses a computer from a browser that has the plugin installed will automatically post links with pornographic images/video. Why does it have to be porn? Because this theme is what makes many people curious, so the malware maker takes advantage of it to spread his malware.

Here are tips to prevent your account from being tagged with pornographic images or videos:

  • By utilizing the Timeline and Tagging Settings facility on facebook
    • Select the settings menu => Timeline and Tagging
    • In the options Review posts friends tag you in before they appear on your timeline? , change the setting to enable. so that the setting becomes On.
    • This option is useful so that anyone who tags/marks us, must get approval first so that it can appear on our timeline. If a friend tags or tags us, they will get a Timeline review notification.
    • We can choose add to timeline (allowing the post to appear on our timeline) or hide (if you don't want the post to appear on your timeline).
    • This way, we can control what posts are entitled to appear on our timeline.

  • Never click on the link to the pornographic image or video, because the malware will attack your Facebook account or your computer, so that our account will also spread the link automatically.
  • Don't just open your Facebook account on a public computer. The computer may have been attacked by a virus, malware or keylogger.
In the future, there may be many more creative ideas from the malware (malicious program) maker. They usually create links that make people curious. For that, do not easily click on suspicious links, either via chat or Facebook timeline. One way to analyze is to google the title of the link, usually there will be a lot of information about the title. If it turns out to be a virus or malware, we should not open it.
So a few tips on how to prevent our Facebook account from being tagged or marked with pornographic images/video. Hope this helps!!!
